Team Mentoring & Capability Building
Upskill internal teams, establish engineering culture.
About this service
The best technology organisations have strong engineering cultures: shared standards, good practices, collaborative problem-solving, and a commitment to continuous improvement. These don't happen by accident — they're built deliberately over time.
We work with engineering teams to accelerate their capability development: code review practices, architectural thinking, testing discipline, and the communication skills that make technical work visible to non-technical stakeholders. We work alongside teams rather than lecturing at them — pairing, reviewing, and coaching in the context of real work.
This is particularly valuable for NZ technology teams that are scaling quickly and need to level up faster than organic development allows, and for businesses that are building their first engineering team and want to establish good practices from the start.
How Dreamware approaches this
We begin by understanding the team: their current capability, the challenges they face, and what good would look like for them. We design a mentoring programme around their actual work rather than generic training material — the best learning happens in the context of real problems.
Mentoring is delivered through a combination of regular one-on-one sessions with engineers, pair programming on real features, architecture review discussions, and group workshops on specific topics. We adapt as we go — what the team needs in month three is usually different from what they needed in month one.
What you get
- Capability assessment — honest evaluation of current team strengths and growth areas
- Mentoring programme — structured engagement plan with measurable outcomes
- One-on-one coaching sessions — regular sessions with engineers at different levels
- Code review practice — establishing and modelling a constructive code review culture
- Architecture workshops — sessions on system design, decision-making, and technical communication
- Engineering playbook — documented standards, practices, and decision frameworks for the team
- Progress review — end-of-engagement assessment against initial capability baseline
Investment guide
Team mentoring engagements typically run $3,000–$6,000 NZD per month depending on team size and engagement intensity. Minimum engagement of three months to see meaningful capability development. One-off workshops on specific topics (system design, testing, cloud architecture) run $2,500–$5,000 per day. Engineering culture assessments and recommendations run $5,000–$10,000.
All pricing in NZD excluding GST. Fixed-price engagements where scope allows — we'll confirm pricing after a free scoping conversation.
