Cloud Migration

On-prem to cloud, cloud-to-cloud, hybrid.

About this service

Cloud migration is as much a risk management exercise as a technical one. Moving production systems involves real business continuity risk, and the migration needs to be planned with appropriate care — not rushed to hit an arbitrary deadline.

We've run migrations from on-premises infrastructure to AWS and Azure, from one cloud provider to another, and hybrid architectures where some workloads stay on-premises for compliance or latency reasons. Each migration is different, but the principles are consistent: understand what you have, move incrementally, test at every step, and always have a rollback plan.

New Zealand businesses often have legacy on-premises infrastructure that's approaching end-of-life, driving migration decisions. We understand the NZ data sovereignty considerations — particularly for government and health organisations — and design accordingly.

How Dreamware approaches this

We start with a migration assessment: cataloguing what exists, understanding dependencies, identifying the migration complexity of each component, and assessing what needs to be refactored versus what can be lifted and shifted.

Migration proceeds in waves, starting with the lowest-risk workloads to build team confidence and surface unexpected complexity before it affects critical systems. We run old and new infrastructure in parallel through the cutover period with clear rollback procedures. We don't cut over until we're confident, even if it means extending the migration timeline.

What you get

  • Migration assessment — inventory of current infrastructure, migration complexity rating for each component, and recommended sequencing
  • Migration runbook — step-by-step procedures for each migration wave with rollback procedures
  • Migrated infrastructure — production workloads running in the target environment
  • Post-migration optimisation — right-sizing and cost optimisation after the initial migration
  • Cost comparison — before and after infrastructure cost analysis
  • Handoff documentation — operational runbook for the new environment

Investment guide

Migration projects are scoped after a migration assessment ($5,000–$12,000 NZD). Full migration projects range from $20,000 (small, simple infrastructure) to $150,000+ (complex, business-critical systems with extensive dependencies). Timeline depends heavily on the complexity of dependencies and the risk tolerance of the business during cutover.

All pricing in NZD excluding GST. Fixed-price engagements where scope allows — we'll confirm pricing after a free scoping conversation.
